As New Blood was announced, I wrote how the only way a revival would make sense was if Dexter was held accountable for his crimes. However, I didn’t expect the series to go there simply because how could Showtime expect an audience to follow the character once his irredeemable qualities were interrogated? How could you keep the IP alive if Dexter is put in prison, or worse, executed? So extreme kudos must be given to showrunner Clyde Phillips and Showtime for “Sins of the Father,” an episode that at once shows Dexter for who he is and holds him accountable, asks fans to reconsider their devotion to the central character, and overall is just a gripping, well-executed hour of television.

Mayor Eric Adams defended the firing of the top internal cop in city jails after an outcry from the union, claiming NYC residents want him to fix the problems on Rikers Island. “The people of this city will judge me at the completion of my time as mayor to determine that I lived up to my campaign promise,” Adams said at a press appearance Wednesday afternoon. “They are not going to look at who was, as you said, sacked or who was no longer there.

Firefighters halted the spread of a small brush fire that burned quickly through grass in Ladera Ranch on Thursday afternoon, authorities said. Though the fire, which charred three to five acres, ignited in a hilly area near many homes, no structures were threatened throughout the incident, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Sean Doran, spokesperson for the department. Authorities received a call about the vegetation fire around 4:09 p.m. burning between O’Neil Drive and the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Course, Doran said.
