This week, ID’s See No Evil is going to show a new episode. In the next episode, called “Unsafe Uber,” the sad story of Samantha Josephson’s murder will be told.
See No Evil is a show made by Arrow Media and Saloon Media. It is about how surveillance cameras are used to solve real crimes. The show uses real footage and dramatic re-enactments, as well as interviews with police, witnesses, and family members.
Here is everything people should know about Samantha Josephson before watching the next episode of ID.
Exploring Samantha Josephson’s tragic death at the hands of a cold-blooded murderer
Samantha Josephson was a student at the University of South Carolina. She was 21 years old at the time. She was a senior with a major in political science. After she graduated, she planned to become a lawyer and work in international law. She had big plans for herself and her education. She had a full scholarship to Drexel University School of Law and a partial scholarship to Rutgers Law School.
But on March 29, 2019, three weeks before she finished her degree, Samantha Josephson went out with her friends. Around 2 AM that night, she called an Uber to take her home. As she waited for her cab, she saw a car and thought it was her Uber. She got in Nathaniel Rowland’s car, thinking it was hers. When the second one realised what had happened, he used his childproof lock system to trap Samantha right away. He then took her away, and no one ever saw her alive again.
When her friends tried to find her the next day and couldn’t find her, they called the police. After watching the surveillance footage, they found out that she got into the wrong car, so they put out a BOLO, which means “Be On the LookOut” for a black Chevy Impala.
What happened to Samantha?
When the BOLO was sent out, it was clear that Samantha Josephson had already been taken. Nathaniel Rowland was pulled over at 4 a.m. on March 30. Both the officer’s dashboard camera and body camera caught the stop. Rowland got out of the car and tried to run away, but he was caught a few blocks away and put in jail.
The officer was also seen looking through Rowland’s car and finding Samantha Josephson’s phone. He also found blood in the trunk, which made him call for help.
14 hours after she got into the wrong car, Samantha Josephson’s body was found. It was found 65 miles away in a field by turkey hunters who were in a remote area close to Rowland’s house.
Everyone working on the case was shocked when it was found that Samantha had been stabbed 120 times. Dr. Thomas Beaver, a forensic pathologist, said that the attack was so brutal that he had trouble finding enough blood to make a blood sample because there was only about a tablespoon of blood left in her body.
Rowland was not hurt at all when he was taken into custody. At his trial, his ex-girlfriend said she saw him put a white sheet over his passenger seat a day after the murder and clean the blood out of his car and off of the tool that was thought to be the murder weapon with bleach.
Nathaniel Rowland was found guilty of kidnapping and killing Samantha Josephson on July 27, 2021, even though he had never done anything violent before. He didn’t take the stand to defend himself after being found guilty. Instead, he said:
The judge was happy with the verdict against Rowland and said that he was a “cold-blooded killer with a rotten heart.” Nathaniel Rowland was given a life sentence with no chance of getting out.
The stories in ID’s See No Evil are all about crimes that were solved with the help of surveillance cameras. Real security-camera footage is used to back up the reenactments, which also include police, eyewitness, and family testimonies. The official plot summary for the show says:
